QUALIFIED VET

PERTH HORSE DENTISTRY & VETERINARY SERVICES is a mobile equine dental and veterinary practice, covering the Perth metro and regional WA.

Dr Thomas Hamilton is a qualified vet who went on to specialise as an equine dentist.

He’s experienced in the full range of equine dental procedures, as well as veterinary procedures such as drenching, microchipping, blood tests, liver fluke sampling and wound care.

The Perth Horse Dentistry mobile unit includes Porta-Safe Stocks with digital scales which are equipped to safely undertake dental services, endoscopy, oroscopy and ultrasonography on site.

MOBILE SERVICE

Tom prefers to visit patients in their home environment as not all equines are able to travel safely and calmly.

When required, he uses the facilities of specialist veterinary hospitals such as The Animal Hospital Murdoch University Equine Hospital and the Equine Dental Referral Clinic.

Tom often teams up with Dr Clinton Float of Pegasus Equine Dentistry, particularly on trips to regional WA where there are large numbers of horses to see.

A BIT ABOUT US

Dr Tom Hamilton, Equine Dentist, Perth Western Australia

Dr Thomas Hamilton

BSc BVMS MANZCVSc (Eq Dent)
Member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Equine Dentistry

Born and raised in Perth, Tom graduated from Murdoch University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery.

Prior to his studies, Tom worked in the stables of some of Western Australia’s top Thoroughbred trainers. This experience gave him an insight into the standards of veterinary care required to keep equine athletes happy, healthy and performing at the highest levels.

Since starting his own equine dentistry practice, Tom works with horses and donkeys of all ages and occupations, from beloved family lawn mowers to high-performance athletes.

His focus is on creating awareness in horse owners of the benefits of regular dental care, both in terms of quality of life and performance under saddle.

In 2017 Tom completed post-graduate studies in Equine Dentistry and was awarded membership to the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Science in the field of Veterinary Equine Dentistry.

Tom says, “I feel privileged to be able to do such meaningful work. The advances we’re making in equine dentistry makes this an exciting field to be a part of. Seeing great outcomes for horses through greater understanding on the part of owners is what continues to make my business a joy.”

Rebecca Howe, Veterinary Assistant, Perth Horse Dentistry

Rebecca Howe

Veterinary Assistant

Rebecca has been around horses since the age of ten and was determined to choose a career that involved working with horses in some way.

As a youngster, she volunteered at one of Perth’s top show-jumping stables in exchange for learning more about horse management and training.

Over the years she has studied several modalities of equine bodywork and bio-mechanics-focussed riding coaching and worked for one of WA’s top racing trainers in Ascot.

She was a client of Tom’s for a couple of years when the opportunity came up to work with him. Rebecca says, “I’d always admired his professionalism and felt that he was someone I could learn a lot from.

When she’s not working with Perth Horse Dentistry, Rebecca is a riding coach and equine bodyworker.
